Russia makes local apps mandatory on smartphones

MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a regulation a requiring all smartphones and computer systems bought within the nation to return pre-installed with Russian software program.

The laws, which can take impact in July 2020, is aimed toward selling Russian-made software program. However it has been dubbed the “anti-Apple” regulation as a result of it will pressure the US tech large to pre-install non-Apple software program on its merchandise.

The Russian authorities will now draw up a listing of merchandise affected by the regulation, printed and signed by Putin on Dec 2, in addition to a listing of purposes that might have to be pre-installed.
